DeOldify
An open-source deep learning project for AI colorization and restoration of historical images.
DeOldify is an open-source project created by Jason Antic that uses GAN (Generative Adversarial Network) architecture to colorize and restore black-and-white photographs and video frames. It gained widespread attention for colorizing historical footage. DeOldify offers multiple model variants — Artistic, Stable, and Video — each tuned for different output styles. While powerful, DeOldify requires technical setup (Python, GPU) for self-hosting. Commercial services like Pixomax Studio offer similar or superior results through a browser interface without local infrastructure.
