Photo Restoration

Repairing physical and digital damage in old photographs before or alongside colorization.

Photo restoration encompasses the repair of damaged, faded, or degraded photographs — addressing scratches, tears, water stains, dust, creases, and contrast loss. Restoration can happen before colorization (manual inpainting in GIMP or Photopea) or in the same pass via optional add-ons such as Pixomax Studio's Smart Damage Repair (+1 credit), which softens scratches and creases on the scan. For print-ready output, AI Clarity Boost (+2 credits) sharpens portraits and upscales exports toward 4K. A clean, well-exposed grayscale scan still gives colorization models the best input — but integrated repair and clarity options reduce the need for a separate editing toolchain on moderately damaged heirloom prints.
